Ultraman is popularly known as an epic live action series from 1966. However, the franchise came up with something new in the year 2011 which turned out to be its manga. The Ultraman manga series is written by Eiichi Shimizu and illustrated by Tomohiro Shimoguchi. It was published by Hero’s Inc and received an English-translated version from Viz Media. From October 1, 2011 to October 30, 2020, it was serialized in Monthly Hero magazine. Later it was transferred to Compiplex Magazine from Hero’s Inc. It stopped on October 1, 2011 and has been collected in 17 tankobon volumes so far. An anime adaptation of this manga was produced by Production IG and Sola Digital Arts.
It was directed by Kenji Kamiyama, Shinji Aramaki and Hirko Uchiyama. The producer team consists of Mitsuhisa Ishikawa and Joseph Chou. The screenplay was given by Ryo Higaki, but season 1 was written by Kurasumi Sunayama and later taken over by Harumi Doki. The epic soundtracks of the anime connecting it to its original meaning were provided by Irone Toda and Kazuma Jinnouchi. The anime aired worldwide on Netflix from April 1, 2019. Currently, the anime has 19 episodes spread over two seasons.
Story
Both the anime and the manga manga act as a follow-up story after the Ültraman Gaint of Light”. Since much time has passed since the events and happenings of Gaint of Light, Ultraman has returned home. He still has the memories of fighting the huge monsters, they are not aliens that invaded the earth. Shin Hayata, aka Ultraman, now leads a pretty normal life until his son grew up. After Shinjiro grew up, he realized that he possessed some strange superpowers that were quite similar to Ultraman’s. That was when Shin revealed that he was the Ultraman.
Shinjiro now takes away the succession and now walks that path of his father. He took on as the new Ultraman and now takes on the battle against aliens invading Earth. You will see the whole process of Shinjiro pick up as the Ultraman and gradually grow stronger, living up to the image of such a powerful being.
Previously on Ultraman
The anime series Ultraman was discontinued on April 1, 2019 with Season 1. The first episode was titled “A Power That Shouldn’t be on this Earth”. As we are well aware of the plot, anime started the time after the battle of Gaint of Light. We saw a young Shinjiro in a museum who witnessed some memories from Ultraman’s time. However, being extremely curious, he fell from the first floor, but recovered surprisingly quickly on good terms. That was the time when Shin realized that he is not normal and has definitely inherited the Ultraman powers. In Episode 2, Shin revealed that he was the Ultraman and asked Shinjiro to discover his inner strength. To do this, he let it grow in the air with full force and Shinjiro landed safely on his own.
Ide explained how he inherited the Ultraman powers and just like his father. Meanwhile, Shin was fighting a robotic dude who gives him a really tough fight. Shinjiro was frustrated that he can’t do anything to protect his father. But just in time, Ide offered him the Ultraman Man’s Suit and asked him to go and rescue his father. From that day on, Shinjiro took over as the new Ultraman. Initially, Shinjiro obviously seemed weak due to his lack of combat experience, but he eventually became more powerful. In the final episode of Ultraman Season 1, we witnessed Shinjiro, who grew up with his skills. Towards the end we saw Bemular come back, but this time to help them.
