In a story there are always tragedies that happen, some resulting in peace and others in total mess. The feeling that comes with seeing the character’s journey to the end is always captivating. But after the death of a character we admire or dislike, the feeling is never the same. We have seen many horrific deaths in Anime, which have broken our hearts and left nothing but questions for the fans. Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion was one of those Anime. It had some very unpleasant deaths that defined the ferocity of the series.
Code Geass Anime is set in the year 2010, focuses on the events following the invasion of Japan. The Holy Empire of Britannia in an effort to initiate their presence as a dominant military nation conquers Japan. Later renamed Area 11, the Japanese people still suffer from their resistance to the Britannia Empire. One day, a British student, Lelouch Lamperouge, stumbles upon a dangerous situation between the British armed forces and Area 11 rebels. The situation leads him to meet a girl named CC, who saves his life and eventually gives him power. The supernatural power of Geass can make everyone stick to the owner of Geass.

10. Clovis La Britannia
Clovis was the viceroy of Area 11 and unfortunately Lelouch’s very first victim. We are introduced to his character as a snob, who only gives fake speeches to win people’s hearts. He ordered to exterminate many Area 11 members during the conflict with rebels as they stole the Cargo. Unbeknownst to the rebels, the charge contained CC, who later gave Geass’s power to Lelouch. As a result, he helped the rebels with Britannia’s forces. And eventually he forced his way to Clovis and used his Geass on him, eventually causing him to surrender. When Lelouch revealed himself to his half-brother Clovis and asked about his mother’s killer. Though he didn’t get much information, it set the stage for Lelouch’s revenge spree on the Britannia Family.

9. Andreas Darlton
Andreas Darlton was a general in the British Army and also a close associate of Princess Cornelia. He is one of Britannia’s good soldiers, who doesn’t care about the racism against Suzaku. Nor did he support the act of Euphemia who killed all the Japanese people. He was confused instead and ends up being influenced by Lelouch’s Geass as well. During the Battle of Tokyo was a major event for the uprisings. Under the influence of Lelouch’s Geass, he disables Cornelia’s Gloucester, injuring her. Andreas also dies during this scenario, his death was just a coincidence as he could not bear his betrayal of Princess Cornelia.

8. Diethard Reid
Diethard Reid was a fellow Briton and later a member of the Black Knights. His character can be described as one who has no self-esteem or ambition towards a goal. All he wants is to see an entertaining story set between Britannias and the rebellious Black Knights. In the end, when he thought there was no way to follow Lelouch, he switched sides with following Schneizel. This resulted in him being shot by Schneizel himself when Lelouch brought him under the Geass and ordered it. His death was pathetic as his last words were to Lelouch, to use the Geass to ease his dying pain. To which he replied that he is not even worth using the power.

7. VV
VV was the older brother of Charles Zi Britannia and also a Geass power holder who bestowed upon him immortality. He looked like a 10-year-old, despite his actual age being around sixty. And he always knew about Lelouch’s Geass and his actions. He was also the one responsible for the murder of Lelouch’s mother. When his Geass code was taken by Charles. His mortality was reversed, leading to his being injured, which ultimately led to his demise.

6. Marianne Vi Britannia and Charles Zi Britannia
Marianne and Charles were the parents of Lelouch and Nunnally. Charles was the emperor of the British Empire and one of the main opponents in the series. He also denied Lelouch and his sister, which was one of the reasons why he was so despised by him. Marianne to Lelouch was portrayed as a sweet mother who was murdered in cold blood. She was one of the reasons for the revenge on the British Empire. Later in the series, when Lelouch goes to Kamine Island to confront Charles. He then discovers the real truth about his mother’s death through her own words. Being so in shock, he rejects both their dreams of destroying time and the world. He turns the code against them and eventually destroys them.

5. Mao
Mao was a Geass mind reader gifted to him by CC. He also had very deep feelings of affection towards CC because she was the only one he could feel safe with. Mao first confronts Shirley, who visited her father’s grave and tries to use her against Lelouch. So that when Lelouch gets in trouble, CC comes to rescue him, and then he would have a chance to meet her.

Later on, his plans sense when he is eventually tricked by Lelouch, causing him to be shot. After the events, he tries to get revenge if he survives by kidnapping Nunnally and planting a bomb on her. But with the help of Suzaku and using his Geass power, they finally defeat him. When Mao tried to flee, he was then killed by CC with a gun. Finally, she acknowledged that she loved him.
4. Rolo Lamperouge
Rolo Lamperouge is a murdered assassin with the Geass power to stop fragments of time. He was portrayed as Lelouch’s brother at the start of season two, which was his disguise for espionage. When Lelouch’s memory returns, he puts Rolo in a difficult position. Because Rolo is in love with his brother’s affection towards him. Although he has committed many sinful deeds, such as killing Shirley, he eventually redeems himself by protecting his brother. When all the Black Knights are against his brother, he eventually sacrifices himself to give his brother a reason to live.

3. Shirley Fenette
Shirley attended the same school as Lelouch. She was a caring friend and also had deep feelings of love for Lelouch. It is later revealed to her that Lelouch was the masked vigilante Zero and the one behind her father’s death. Because she is in a band, she later becomes mentally insane. Then Lelouch uses his Geass to make her forget all the painful memories of him. After everything was normal for her, she had her Geass canceled by Jeremiah’s power. Which resulted in the return of her nightmares about Lelouch. She later confronts her feelings and tries to remember that she forgave him a long time ago. Later when she tries to help Lelouch but ends up being shot by Rolo. Her death was avoidable if the circumstances weren’t there.

2. Euphemia Li Britannia
Euphemia was the princess of the Britannian family and also the viceroy of Area 11. She was a very beautiful and kind hearted person who treated everyone equally. All she ever wanted was peace between the Japanese and the British, but her destiny was to bring chaos. She announces the creation of Japan’s Special Administrative Zone that would liberate the Japanese people.

Later at the event for the zone, when she meets Zero in private to discuss the details. Hearing them, he is then satisfied with the conviction and agrees to her proposal. But as he talks to her unknowingly, his Geass power is spiraling out of control. He jokingly calls her to destroy the Japanese people, activating the code in her. And then she tries to kill all the Japanese who are in the stadium for the ceremony. Finally she is shot by Zero, he shot her crying. Her death was the greatest tragedy, which surely no one will ever forget.
1. Lelouch Vi Britannia
Lelouch was the protagonist of the story, otherwise known as the masked vigilante Zero. His intellectual abilities are very high and he likes to play chess and can probably beat anyone. His decision to take revenge on Britannia began when he was only 10 years old. He has lived his life to protect his sister and his friends. A final war with Schneizel as he defeats him and uses his Geass on Nunnally to grab the FLEIZA start button. Nunnally is disgusted by her brother’s action and so is the entire nation.

Finally, Lelouch decides to stage a rally to execute all the Black Knight leaders, while the entire nation watches. At that moment Suzaka dressed as Zero, whom no one knew, suddenly killed Lelouch with his sword. The greatest punishment Lelouch could ever endure was to die, instead of living a peaceful life with his sister. When Lelouch fell over his sister, she could see that he was sacrificing himself to keep the entire nation alive. He dies laughing in the arms of her beloved sister.
