1. Natsu can’t control his powerups
Each shonen series includes the transformation of heroes. In Dragon Ball we see our favorite Saiyans become Super Saiyans to defeat their enemies. Fans like to see a story where hard work and perseverance pay off. Transformations or power-ups are an essential part of the game. Natsu has two different power-ups, namely the Fire Lightning Dragon Mode and the Dragon Force. In Lightning Dragon mode, he can generate flames and lightning to deal extra damage. And Dragon Force makes him more like a dragon. While he’s used both powers, they’re not something he can just turn on or off whenever he wants. These powerups happen when he is under extreme stress.
2. Natsu is part human, part dragon and part demon
Natsu was revived by his brother Zeref and transformed into the demon called “END”. This means that he is part human and part demon. Natsu is also a Dragon Slayer and learning this kind of magic implants a Dragon Seed in each user. The more they use this magic, the more the seed grows. Eventually the seed will hatch and the user will also turn into a dragon at some point. Natsu had within him all three different seeds that fought within him, although he managed to retain his humanity afterwards.
3. The meaning of his name
For manga artists, giving their protagonist the perfect name is a very important part of creating their character. Usually, authors will often use themes to come up with names. For example, in Dragon Ball, many characters are named after food. In Fairy Tail, Hiro Mashima chose to use seasonal names for his main characters. Natsu means summer in Japanese, and he also has the power of flames. Hiro Mashima also named the main character of his manga, Rave Master, Haru, which means spring. And the main character of his current manga Edens Zero is Shiki, which means four seasons. Natsu’s name also matches his cheerful personality.

4. Natsu can’t eat his own flames
Since Natsu is a Dragon Slayer, he has many skills. He can consume the magic of the dragon whose magic they learned. Since Natsu is a Flame Dragon Slayer, he can consume the flames of any other mage. This should also mean that he will be able to create his own flames and eat them too, so he never runs out of energy. However, that is not possible. He can’t eat his own flames. Sometimes this trope is even used for comedic purposes in the series, such as a hungry Natsu unable to fight villains.
5. He is over 400 years old
During the battle of Fairy Tail, Natsu is seen trapped in a barrier designed to only keep people over 80 years old in. While viewers didn’t know at the time that Natsu was much older than 80, that’s why that barrier worked. Later we learn that Natsu was born during the Age of Dragons, 400 years ago. His partner was the Dragon Igneel and he spent a lot of time training with him. But after being sent into the future through the Eclipse Gate, Natsu lost all of his past memories. He forgot everything about his life and what he had done. All he knew was Igneel’s absence.
6. Natsu has a dragon in her
As you already know, Natsu was born in the Age of Dragons. Throughout the series, the whereabouts of Igneel, his foster parent, are shrouded in mystery. One day, Igneel and the dragons responsible for training Natsu and other Dragon Slayers all disappeared. No one has ever seen them again. But when Acnologia woke up to defeat many of the dragons that flew through the Eclipse Gate, viewers learned more about Igneel’s whereabouts. He had actually slumbered in Natsu, hiding his magic until he got a chance to fight against Acnologia. However, during the battle with Acnologia, Igneel fought bravely and lost his life. He was able to grab Acnologia’s arm.
7. His Character Design Initially Had Horns
Before a manga or anime is shown to the world, numerous character design changes are made to the characters. It’s a long creative process for manga artists. In this day and age, the images of a character are very important in how much popularity they can get from fans. For Natsu, the creator wanted him to have horns on his head. He did indeed have horns in the Fairy Tail short story, “Fairy Tale”. There it was shown that Natsu was a ghost and had a pair of horns on his head. But after that, the creators scrapped that idea and gave it a more human look.
8. Natsu’s scarf is special
Natsu’s white scarf is the most iconic and striking part of his clothing. He wears the scarf every day, everywhere, regardless of the weather. The scarf is actually made from the scales of his foster parent, Igneel, meaning he is immune to flame. So it only makes sense that the fabric has such a special place in Natsu’s heart. The scarf has protected him many times during moments of danger. It is able to absorb Zeref’s death magic, but the magic caused the scarf to change color to black from white. This incident also stopped Natsu. Because the scarf had absorbed dark magic, it became impossible for Natsu to heal his injuries.
9. Natsu Suffers From Motion Sickness
This is an unexpected fact about our protagonist. Natsu gets carsick very easily, as he is trained by dragons. Hiro Mashima only intended to use this as comic relief and to give Natsu’s character a weakness. Later on, though, it becomes a plot point, as all Dragon Slayers on vehicles are prone to this. At the end of the Fairy Tail series, we learn that this is because of the Dragon Slayer magic itself. It is because of the synchronization that occurs between a human’s ears and a dragon’s superior eyesight. But not to worry about it. There are remedies for this. There are special enchantments or specially designed vehicles.
10. He survived death
This is one of the biggest plot twists for fans in Fairy Tail. Natsu died 400 years ago in a dragon attack that also killed his parents. However, his brother Zeref, overcome with grief, could not give up trying to revive Natsu. Zeref investigated all kinds of ways to do this. This angered the gods when Zeref tried to go against them. Zeref became imbued with the Curse of Contradictions, killing everything he cared about. But this still didn’t stop him from bringing Natsu back. Natsu was resurrected as “Etherious Natsu Dragneel” (END), a demon with the power to kill him.
