I’m not gonna lie. Whenever we think of Espada or Bleach, it kind of gives off similar vibes from Akatsuki or Naruto. But let’s not compare these two. They are both very different. It’s just the vibes though. But who are the Espada? Well, they are the group of strongest Arrancars of Aizen’s Hollow-Shinigami hybrid army. Now, as we know, Aizen was Bleach’s main antagonist. Then the Espada is of course also a group of opponents. Aizen formed this group to fight against the Gotei-13 captains during Aizen’s War. But there are things that make the Ten Espada interesting. Like the fact that the ten espada represent the ten ways of death, one can die from it. And the abilities of each Espada and their beliefs represent these ten ways of death. Although they are a bunch of antagonists, they are still quite popular.
Now, just as Akatsuki from Naruto was popular and had its own fan base, Espada is also popular among fans. So today we are going to rank the Top 10 Espada in Bleach based on their popularity. Whether it’s their looks or their ideology, fans have always loved them. So without further ado, let’s start with our Top 10 Espada in Bleach – Ranked by Popularity.
1. Coyote Starrk
Can an opponent be nice and wise? Well, Coyote Starrk didn’t deserve to be an antagonist. To us, he looked like the kind of protagonist who had no choice but to live as an antagonist. As we mentioned above, each Espada represents different aspects of death. His aspect was ‘Loneliness’. Why? This is why. He had experienced loneliness himself, in ways we could never experience. He had powers so powerful that he was afraid he would kill someone. And in order not to kill anyone, he chose the path of solitude and roamed the desolate wastelands all alone. At one point he was so alone that to fill the void, he created a friend from his own spiritual energy and named him Lilynette Gingerbuck.
Starrk was so strong that he fought against two captains, Jushiro Ukitake and Shunsui Kyoraku. His strength never got the best of him. He always had his code of honor until his death. Kyoraku, on the other hand, had to use low-blow attacks in an attempt to defeat Starrk. Starrk was the loneliest, least evil, and strongest Espada ever. And that’s what makes it the most popular Espada of all.
2. Ulquiorra Cifer
The aspect of death that Ulquiorra represents is “nihilism,” meaning that nothing in the world has a real existence. And so he views human life as nothing more than waste. The potential of his true powers was terrifying. Even Aizen knew nothing about his second transformation. Ichigo barely survived against Ulquiorra. But in the end, Ichigo was the protagonist, so of course he would win in the end. And Ulquiorra realized the real value of life during his last fight. In the beginning we may have been afraid of him, but in the end, during his end, we felt for him.
3. Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez
Grimmjow stands for Destruction. And that is proven by his thirst for violence. Yes, he craves violence, but what makes him special and holds a special place in our hearts is that he is not dishonorable. Remember how he let Orihime heal Ichigo when he was injured? Every evil does not approve of that. And the fact that he let that happen proves he wasn’t bad at all. He kept to his code of honor. And that’s what makes him so popular among the fans.
4. Nnoitra Gilga
What makes Nnoitra here in this list? Well, the fact that he nearly defeated undefeated champion Kenpachi makes us admire his abilities. He is without a doubt the most bloodthirsty Espada in the Arrancar army of Aizen, able to match the strength of Kenpachi. He also has one of the fastest regenerating abilities that allows him to grow extra arms just when he needs them to surprise his opponents during close quarters combat. Imagine fighting this man. Wait, don’t introduce yourself. You’re dead before you know it. We are not Kenpachi to survive this man.
5. Nelliel Tu Odelschwanck
We love Nel, don’t we? She should have been number 1 on this list. But the fact that she’s not an Espada anymore causes her to drop to this number. But also the fact that she was the third-rate Espada and not including her in this list would be a disrespect for her abilities. We don’t need many reasons to love her. The fact that she’s super cute when she’s in her kid version, her cuteness, overwhelms any power of all Espadas. But don’t underestimate her abilities.
Remember how Renji couldn’t distinguish between Nel’s and Ulquiorra’s spiritual powers? She even beat Nnoitra many times that he had to go behind her back to get her out of the Espada, with Szayel’s help. But Nel is not weak enough to die of their betrayal. But what makes Nelliel different from all other Espadas is that she has a strong sense of compassion. Even when she regained her memories, she was wise enough to understand who to side with. And she chose Ichigo, who saved her many times.

6. Level Harribel
Harribel’s aspect of death was Sacrifice. And she joined the army of Aizen to protect the three friends she could make in Hueco Mundo. That’s kind of a sacrifice in itself, knowing she’s not evil, yet she had to join the evil army of Aizen to protect those she hold dear. Many people think she is one of the weakest Espadas, but remember that she tried to kill Aizen the moment she realized what he thought of the lives of his Espadas. Standing up to someone like Aizen takes a lot of courage and strength, and she possesses both.
7. Baraggan Louisenbairn
Baraggan stands for Senescence, which means deterioration with age. And like the aspect of death he represents, he also has the ability to turn things into dust with a single touch. We have all seen his abilities during his fight against Sui-Fon. He was undoubtedly one of the strongest Espadas, but he was no match for Aizen. And the fact that his own powers could be used against him made him fall back on this number in this list. But whatever happens, we dig his powers. After all, one touch is all it takes.
8. Aaroniero Arruruerie
Aaroniero would be one of the weakest Espadas, right? So how did he get on this list? Well, here’s why. He likes to make his opponents desperate and helpless before defeating them. He makes them believe what they want, he gives them false hope, and just as they fall for it, Aaroniero makes them realize how unfair it was. If considered weak, he uses his brain to weaken his opponents by letting their fears and weaknesses overwhelm them. And when they are unable to get up, Aaroniero springs into action. Using your weakness against them is evil, but you cannot deny that he is a genius.
9. Szayel Aporro Granzo
The aspect of death that Szayel represents is madness. And yes, he is crazy. Not just any madman, he’s a mad mad scientist who made his own Fracciones go through so many terrifying adjustments so that they can be of some use to him. Loyalty means nothing to him. His craziness dragged him onto this list. But no one will deny how satisfying it was when Kurotsuchi ended it slowly and painfully. We were also afraid of Kurotsuchi because of his madness. And the fact that Kurotsuchi was crazy too was the reason why he was able to take out Szayel.
And one of the reasons Szayel got on this list was because of his ending. His ending was more popular than when he was alive. And the fact that eventually, just before he died, he realized that nothing was perfect. Not even his so-called immortality.
10. Zommari Rureaux
Zommari is one of the balanced characters. He does not feel guilty for those he kills, but he also respects them when they are defeated. He doesn’t feel guilty about using bad tactics, but he doesn’t disrespect his opponent.
