The Rising of the Shield Hero Season 2 Episode 4 Recap
As Naofumi and his group manage to decapitate the Ghost Turtle, they soon realize that their task is not yet done as Ost is still alive, meaning her creator is undefeated. After an encounter, the Shield Hero informs his allies that they will climb on the legendary monster’s back to find his weak spot so they can kill him for good. Meanwhile, Rishia hopes Itsuki is there too so she can finally meet him.
The next morning, while they are on their way to complete their mission, Naofumi tells his company about the risks involved and explains to Ost that they depend a lot on her. Just as they begin their long climb, some soldiers wish them good luck and even express their gratitude to Ost, who has played an important role in the battle until now. However, being a known humanoid, she struggles to understand what motivates people to be so kind to her, even though they know she has collected souls at the urging of the Spirit Tortoise.
After understanding her dilemma, Raphtalia and others remind her that she has saved countless lives and that her past has no meaning anymore. When everyone goes to rest after a long day, Ost and Rishia talk about each other. However, Ost suddenly seems upset and Rishia is about to call someone for help when the Shield Hero appears. He turns their attention to the disappearing fog, and after asking Ost’s opinion, Naofumi’s party heads for a nearby village.
When they get there, the party is shocked to find a ruined city with several victims. The Queen orders her soldiers to begin the rescue work and meets Naofumi for a special reason. She takes him to a nearby derelict building and informs him that, according to the texts found there, it used to be a sanctuary for the spirit turtle. The Shield Hero wonders if this was where the legendary monster’s seal was broken, but the Queen couldn’t really confirm his suspicions. Meanwhile, Rishia begins to decipher the ancient writing on the walls.
The Rising of the Shield Hero Season 2 Episode 4 Ending: What do Naofumi and his company find at the shrine?
Rishia informs her allies that the ancient script says nothing about the seal, but it describes the Ghost Turtle as the guardian beast of the world. Before other messages can be deciphered, Naofumi’s party shows him messages written by the heroes in the language of their world. The Shield Hero can hardly believe it, but as soon as he checks the writings, he recognizes that the message left behind is written in Japanese. Unfortunately it has faded in several places and all Naofumi could decipher are three words: seal, seventh and shattered.
Ost, unable to understand the message, informs the Shield Hero that if they intend to defeat the legendary monster, they can only do so by entering his body and dealing a fatal blow to his heart. Unfortunately, Rishia, trying to decipher other messages so they can make a more informed decision together, is interrupted when the shrine begins to collapse and everyone there has to run for their lives.
Who broke the spirit turtle’s seal?
After Ost tells Naofumi that the only way to kill the legendary monster is to go inside and deal a fatal blow to its heart, the Shield Hero knows that much depends on the messages written on the walls of the shrine . But as mentioned above, the dilapidated structure itself collapses, leaving Naofumi with no choice but to follow Ost’s advice. His party soon finds a cave that they believe will lead them to the heart of Spirit Tortoise.
Convinced that they are on the right track, the group carefree walks inside, unaware of the danger lurking around them. Suddenly they are attacked by an unknown man, but when Naofumi manages to defend his party, he claims to have been sent by the Queen. Just as he tries to leave with his partners, Raphtalia uses anti-mirage magic to reveal their true selves. The Shield Hero and his allies are shocked to learn that they are none other than Therese, L’Arc and Glass.
Though the episode ends without revealing what they’ve been up to, it seems likely that they were the ones who broke the seal of the Spirit Tortoise. There seems to be no other reason for them to be there than that. In addition, they have previously spoken openly about their intention to get rid of the Cardinal Heroes in order to stop the interdimensional horde of monsters. But we’ll have to wait for the next episode to learn whether this is true or not.
