We all know that every anime has its unique “power source”. In My Hero Academia, this power source is called a Quirk (previously known as a Meta ability). Oddities are superhuman abilities that a certain number of people possess. These quirks are all unique, so they are different from each other. There have been several changes and new revelations in My hero academia. One of these revelations is something called “Quirk Awakening”, which we’ll talk about in detail in this article.
However, we will also explore Hitoshi Shinso’s powers and abilities. Introduced as a supporting anti-hero character in My Hero Academia. His Quirk has another level of mystery and should be categorized as a Mind F. Because he can easily brainwash his opponents. Since a strong whim becomes an important Plot armor in this series, imagine Shinso’s whim getting an Awakening. How strong would he get? Will there be another quirk from The Evolution Of Shinso? We’ll know soon. This article contains some spoilers, so make sure you catch up on the Manga before you start reading.
What is Quirk Evolution/Awakening?
It was recently revealed that the User can achieve an “Awakening” after the Quirk manifestation. While the state of awakening is achievable for any owner of a quirk, they still need some sort of emotional catalyst to develop their quirk on the spot. It’s more like the awakening of Mangekyo Sharingan. This evolution makes the user’s Quirk grow stronger or push its limits. However, this topic has been around for a while, even if it seems quite new, as demonstrated earlier in the series when Midoriya One For All begins to evolve and unlock a number of other hidden powers.
This whole Evolution Quirk topic started getting attention recently. When the new chapter of My Hero was released where Shigaraki (leader of the League of Villains) finds himself in the worst possible situation, paralyzed by Re-Destro. Shigaraki was nearly dead, but something unusual saved his life! Re-Destro claimed that Shigaraki’s whim had evolved. Earlier we saw that Shigaraki needs all his five fingers to touch that object to destroy something. Now, however, he can only use a few to start the process of decay. Like he did with Re-Destro. This made everyone curious about characters who might awaken their idiosyncrasy. And there appears Our boy Shinso.
About Hitoshi Shinso
Hitoshi is known for his straightforward and stoic personality. He has the ability to start a conversation with anyone. He is a student at UA High School. Belonging to General Department C-1. So far, He appears to be a smart person who knows how to say the right words. This is an important skill to make his Quirk efficient. In this way he manipulates others in a conversation.
Even though it’s a powerful quirk, it turns out he hated it for a long time. Because his brainwashing abilities are seen as an evil whim throughout his life. This also made him angry or jealous of people with other idiosyncrasies that were more heroic. Anyway, Hitoshi wants to become a Pro Hero. He took an oath to prove wrong those people who considered him a bad person. His contrasting thoughts and personality make him an admirable character. He soon forms a bond with Midoriya Monoma Kaminari and many others.
Shinso’s skills
In the beginning, Hitoshi lacked the skills to fight in direct combat. So he decided to rely on His Quirk in battle. He was later trained by Eraser Head, his mentor. Hitoshi showed the outcome of this training during the Joint Training Battle.
He took part in two training rounds and showed amazing skills. Keeping viewers engaged during his battles. He uses voice modifying functions. And dazzles his opponents with his Persona chords. Later, Shota decides to secretly train him after seeing his abilities and similarities between the two.
The peculiarity of Shinso
Hitoshi’s Quirk is called brainwashing. This allows him to manipulate people into a state where they will have to obey anything he commands. A disadvantage of his ability is that he can only use this power when his opponent is having a verbal conversation with him, ie reacting to something he says. Brainwashing must be activated intentionally and left unaffected depending on Hitoshi.
While his quirk allows him to control multiple people at once, he can activate his brainwashing powers on one person at a time. Initially, he was unable to get his targets to do things that required high brain function. Later, however, he trains hard to develop his Quirk where he can successfully command people to talk. This marked a big leap towards the whim of The Evolution Of Shinso.

He uses artificial vocal cords to mimic another person’s voice. In order for his power to work, he needs his opponent to react. This creates a chance for him to strike first. He also uses a Capturing Weapon, a long cloth made of steel wire alloy and carbon nanofibers. This scarf helps him grab things or stop his opponent. In addition, it also improves his mobility.
The Evolution of Shinso’s Oddity
As mentioned so far in this article, Shinso has a powerful quirk, but it has several drawbacks. The main ones are – He cannot activate his powers on more than one person at a time. His quirks don’t work if his target doesn’t respond. Even though he now uses artificial vocals, if the target is aware of his powers, they just don’t have to respond to anyone. Third, he cannot use his powers on non-living entities. He can’t make them do complicated tasks. He has trained hard throughout the series to make sure he overcomes all these drawbacks.
Still, the theory is that once he gets his Quirk Awakening, he’ll be able to control people with eye contact. Although it will be limited to a distance (more like Lelouch from Code Geass). He will also be able to control their Quirks and use them to his advantage, placing his target on the spot of a suit of armor or a puppet. Its erratic evolution is still awaited, but it is expected to take place at some point in the story. During an interview in 2017, Horikoshi (Mangaka from My hero academia) said that Hitoshi will get some interesting developments later in the series. So the Evolution of Shinso’s whim has a great chance of taking place.
