Restaurant to Another World, also known as Isekai Shokudo, is a Japanese novel series by Junpei Inuzaka. It was later adapted into a light novel series illustrated by Katsumi Enami. It was published by Shufunotomo and was released on February 28, 2015. A manga adaptation of the series, illustrated by Takaaki Kugatsu, was later released. An English version of the manga was released by Yen Press and Crunchyroll. It was released on November 18, 2016 and ran until June 25, 2019. The manga was collected into 4 tankobon volumes, all of which are available to read.

The series’ popularity hit the air after the release of the anime adaptation. Season 1 was produced by Silver Link and Season 2 by OLM. The series ended on July 4, 2017 and 24 episodes were broadcast until December 18, 2021. Each of them aired on TV Tokyo, TV Osaka, TXN and others. As for the international broadcast, the rights were given to Crunchyroll and Funimation. On April 26, 2021, a manga series titled “Isekai Shokudo – Yoshoku no Nekoya” illustrated by Morozawa Yamizawa was released. This manga is currently in progress and has completed its first volume.

Story

Like any other anime series, Isekai Shokudo’s plot was also its main highlight. The series revolves around a particular restaurant called “The Western Restaurant Nekoya”. It is located in an everyday corner of a very unpopular shopping area in Tokyo. The specialty of the restaurant is that it offers the Japanese versions of many western dishes. The restaurant is open during regular business hours, but usually remains closed on weekends. The main customers are the working class of the city because of the working hours. However, another thing that makes it different from any other regular restaurant is the things it does on the weekends. The restaurant secretly opens on Saturdays, but it is special than other days.

It opens a secret door to another fantasy world with mythical creatures. The world’s inhabitants include elves, dragons, beasts and many other fantastic fantasy creatures. The restaurant is open on the weekends for these creatures who come and enjoy the exotic food of the place. Some of them are regular customers of the restaurant and their regular visits make it a very happy place. The main character of the series is Nekoya who usually serves the food in the restaurant. Nekoya meets a homeless demon girl named Aletta who was listening to her vividly disguised as a human in the human world. However, she was suspended when they discovered she was a demon. Friendly Nekoya fed her with staff breakfast and offered her a part-time job as a waitress once a week. When Aletta was added to the staff, “Red Queen” enchanted her because she considers Nekoya and the restaurant her personal treasure.

The series progressed in the same direction and was edited by the series finale “Pork Lion Cutlet”. It was released on December 18, 2021 and Nekoya and that staff were preparing to begin the celebration of Adelheid and Shareef’s weeding. The atmosphere of the episode was very good and lively. A heroine from another world Yomi first visited the restaurant after the death of her husband. They all cherished their memories there, while Yomi recalls the time when she met Daiki and became his wife and co-owner of the restaurant.
