Hire a Girlfriend Season 2 Episode 5 Recap
After the night out with Ruka, Kazuya realizes that his room is now quite messy and he needs to clean up. When he opens the gate of his apartment to take out the garbage, he is shocked to see that Chizuhara is going to do the same. As the duo exchange greetings, Chizuru wonders why Kazuya seems stunned. As she leads the way, Kazuya tries to control his emotions. While he hopes she doesn’t know that Ruka is spending the night in his apartment, their brief encounter doesn’t go the way he would have liked.
Chizuru throws out her garbage and slowly walks away, while Kazuya starts doing the same after her. But suddenly Chizuru turns and asks him if Ruka spent the previous night in his apartment. Kazuya was stunned by the sudden inquiry and couldn’t even form a coherent sentence to answer her question convincingly. Noticing his hesitation, Chizuru asks him not to make up any lies to justify anything. Before walking away, she notes in frustration that all men are like that, so she’s not surprised.
Meanwhile, Kazuya tries to follow her to tell her the truth. However, Chizuru does not wait to listen to what he has to say and slams the door once she reaches her apartment. Kazuya hopes he can tell her that he didn’t have sex with Ruka last night because he only loves her. Since Chizuru’s birthday is only a few days away, he decides to clear things up and give her a present as a token of all the support she’s given him over the past few months.
Unfortunately, he has never bought a gift for a girl in the past, so he has no idea what to buy for Chizuru. So he hires Sumi for a day so he can ask her for advice. The duo clicks photos together and then goes shopping. Though Sumi seems genuinely happy, Kazuya shocks her by asking her about a suitable gift for Chizuru. Sumi feels sad that he wanted to talk about another girl on their date.
However, she decides to help him as best she can. She takes Kazuya to a children’s show where a superhero fights against a group of villains. Although he doesn’t realize it right away, the girl in the pink costume turns out to be Chizuru. Kazuya is impressed, apart from her job as a rental girlfriend and her acting school, she still manages to do other gigs to support her dreams financially.
Rent A Girlfriend Season 2 Episode 5 Ending: What Does Kazuya Give Chizuru as a Birthday Present?
Since Sumi speaks very little, Kazuya assumes she wants him to use the children’s show as a clue to find a perfect gift for Chizuru. Kazuya is in awe of her dedication to fulfill her acting dream. Therefore, he believes that any gift that takes that factor into account will be perfect for her. Later, Sumi gathers all her courage to further explain that gifts are not necessarily about monetary value, but also about the emotional connection. Kazuya is extremely grateful for all the help he has received from Sumi and thanks her before going home.
Later that evening, Chizuru returns to her apartment and has a short phone conversation with her grandmother. After a long day she just wants to relax. So she takes a bath and goes to her balcony for a breath of fresh air. She is surprised to find a gift there and there is no doubt that it belongs to Kazuya. She goes to her room and opens the box to find a note. In that note, Kazuya expressed his gratitude for all the help he received from her and even said that nothing had happened between her and Ruka the previous night.
After reading the note, she unpacks the gift further and finds Japanese cured plums. They apparently help people relax, so they are ideal for someone like Chizuru who works too much. While Chizuru seems pleased with the gift, Kazuya panics in the neighboring apartment over her possible reaction to the gift.
