Prima Doll Episode 5 comes out this weekend. Prima Doll is a Japanese multimedia project created by Key and Visual Arts in October 2020 featuring Kotobukiya figurines, serialized short stories and an online novel. This series was created by Bibury Animation Studios for Tensho. It premiered on July 9, 2022. The screenplay is written by Kai and Toya Okano.
Primo Doll is a story about mechanical dolls. The staff of Café Kuronekotei is very diverse. Vending machines, or autonomous mechanical dolls, cheerfully serve customers, even if they were not always up for domestic life. Just a few years earlier, their machines served as weapons in the great battle, but now they find their place in cafe Kuronekotei in a world at peace after the war. Na-Ga, Fuzichoco, Yui Hara, En Morikura and Lack provide original illustrations, along with Akane Yano. It begins with a Chat Noir song (featuring Azumi Waki, Tomori Kusunoki, Miyu Tomita, Yuki Nakashima, and Akari Kit). Sentai Filmworks has licensed the series worldwide, except in Asia.
Prima Doll episode summary
Episode 3 gave me both a Violet Evergarden vibe and Komi can’t communicate the vibe. I sympathized with Houkiboshi, hoping to see her comrades alive and returning, but was heartbroken afterwards. The letter broke my heart, but at least Houkiboshi had her voice back. Besides, I also loved her song. Since Houkiboshi’s design has always been my favorite of all the vending machines in the cafe, I’m glad she’s the next one to shine. As is common with these girls, it appears that they have had some form of trauma affecting their bodies as a result of their PTSD. Houkiboshi was unable to speak due to her PTSD from the war.
Houkiboshi’s backstory was rough, but she seemed very close to her unit, especially their captain, who asked her to sing to them as a goodbye, as it was very likely none of them would survive the battle. After recovering from the battlefield and being repaired by Nagi, Houkiboshi discovered that she could no longer speak. The whole situation was just too sad for her, so she couldn’t even finish her song before crying. Houkiboshi’s voice is not broken as far as I’m concerned. There’s something deeper going on than just her voicebox malfunctioning. By practicing singing onstage with Houkiboshi, Haizakura tries to help Houkiboshi regain her voice by being the helpful cinnamon roll that she is.

I knew immediately what was going on when I heard that the 525th Regiment would be returning. I’m not going to lie, I was hoping the captain was still alive, but that was wishful thinking. My best guess is that everyone will be cremated. Haizakura’s actions could have easily escalated their situation after Houkiboshi was towed to the docks, but it appears that one of the individuals carrying the remains recognized Houkiboshi’s name and eventually met Haizakura. It seems that Hana wanted Haizakura to give Houkiboshi a letter she wrote to him from Onii-san.
Because her tears made them happy, knowing that even as an automaton she shared their pain, her Onii-san happens to be the same captain as Houkiboshi’s unit, and the letter almost helped her overcome her guilt. damn. It was tear-jerking, especially when Houkiboshi finished reading the letter and her voice finally began to return. As it turns out, Haizakura was right, it wasn’t the hardware stopping her from speaking, it was her fault and grief. This episode ends with Houkiboshi singing to the relatives of the 525th Regiment. I hope this will not just be a return of Yuugiri’s voice, but that it will become permanent.
