Since the end of Super Saiyan Saga, Dragon Ball has been nothing but power-ups for Saiyans. It’s like other characters just disappear and are there to box people. And if that wasn’t enough, the series then focuses entirely on Vegeta and Goku. Admittedly, we like to cheer on one or the other or both, but some (perhaps many) want other characters to shine as well. Gohan has also been pretty much useless since the end of the Cell saga. His fans had competed for screentime for him, which resulted in his being sidelined. And among the fans there was also Piccolo who is also forgotten. Once the main villain of the story, he has now been reduced to a nanny for Gohan’s daughter. But if that were true, we wouldn’t be talking about the new form of Piccolo here.
Piccolo’s new form had been rumored for a while, long before the movie was even released. And now that the movie is out, we’ve finally seen the Namek reach a new level that rivals Goku and Vegeta. But what can he do in form? We’ll discuss it in the section below.
How strong is the new shape of Piccolo?
Below is the spoiler for Dragon Ball Super: Hero Movie, which you can read at your discretion.
Piccolo’s new form gave him not only strength, but also some physical changes. He grows in size and gains power that rivals Goku’s and Vegeta’s Ultra Instinct and Ultra Ego. That’s pretty big! But how did he come into possession of this new form? Has he gone through a super Saiyan transformation? Not at all, he took an easier route to achieve that. When the newly emerged Super Cell went bad, Piccolo made a wish to Shenron, asking him to unleash his full potential.

How did Piccolo’s new shape come about?
What followed was a transformation like no other. Since Piccolo has no hair, he cannot undergo a hair change, instead he grew in size close to Super Cell (he was big and strong) and got a symbol behind his back. The symbol is a circle that represents the trees on the planet Namek. The new form of Piccolo is called True potential, and Piccolo is not only getting bigger, he also has slender arms and a greenish-yellow complexion. This begs the question of whether it only applied to Piccolo or if it could be applied to other Nameks as well. But we only have one Namek fighter, so we may never know. Maybe a new Namek in the future would explain that?
