Here’s everything you need to know about the ending of ‘Overlord IV’ Episode 1. SPOILERS AHEAD!
Overlord Season 4 Episode 1 Recap
Albedo wakes up in her bedroom and remembers Ainz. She suddenly wonders what plans her Lord has for the Wizarding Realm. However, Albedo thinks she shouldn’t worry about it, as she can rely on Ainz’s decision and leadership. Meanwhile, Ainz has been up all night and finds his maid waiting for him to get out of bed. He asks her to pick out a dress for him and quickly prepares for the important day ahead.
As he is about to settle down in his chair, Albedo and Elder Liches visit him. The former compliments him on his flowy dress, but Ainz thinks it’s a bit too showy for him. He thinks about the documents that have been on his table since yesterday, so he starts going through them one by one. But deep down, Ainz feels that an ordinary salaryman like him is not the right person to run a kingdom. His doubts seem justified when he reads the documents he is supposed to approve and can hardly understand them.
Once he thoughtlessly completes the paperwork, Ainz starts looking at the anonymous proposal from Nazarick’s people. He likes to look at them personally, because he often disguises his own ideas as people’s choices. This time, he takes the opportunity to propose the idea that people should be given a uniform that can help unite them. However, when he finds that Albedo is furious at the idea, he quickly tries to change the subject.
Lady Mare and Aura visit the office to spend some time with Ainz, who is happy to see them. He lets them sit on his lap when Albedo thinks he should let her sit with him like that. Though Ainz rebuffs her by saying she’s an adult, he later lets her sit close to him for a while. The discussion quickly shifts to an urgent economic issue.
E-Rantel is a town of merchants that had a thriving economy until Ainz took power. With no one willing to get there now, the supply chains have completely broken down and the kingdom is in a desperate situation. Watching the growing crisis, Albedo asks her Lord’s permission to leave for Re-Estize so she can find a solution. Since Ainz trusts her, he lets her go in the hope that she will somehow solve the problem.
Overlord Season 4 Episode 1 Ending: Why does Ainz take charge of the Adventurers Guild?
With Albedo gone, Ainz decides to stroll through E-Rantel to understand the ground reality of the merchant town a little better. While in the market, he sees the Adventurers Guild and decides to pay it a visit. Once inside, he learns that it is empty these days as there are no more missions or guard duties for monsters. Although the crime has decreased due to the presence of undead guards, the adventurers have to pay the price because there is nothing left for them to do.
After patiently listening to the concerns, Ainz decides to meet the guild master. While Adventurer’s Guilds are independent entities and not politically connected to any kingdom, Ainz offers the Guildmaster the chance to join the Nation of Darkness. He believes that the Guildmaster can also convince the adventurers. Usually the adventurers are charged with the responsibility of protecting people or killing monsters. However, Ainz claims that none of them are needed in his kingdom anymore. Instead, he wants the adventurers to pursue the work they were destined to do in the first place.
Ainz thinks they will serve the kingdom better by exploring unknown lands. But when Guildmaster expresses his fear that their discoveries could lead to the invasion of a foreign kingdom, Ainz states he isn’t interested. He claims that he could potentially invade neighboring nations with his army, but he only plans to use his troops to defend the kingdom from now on. Ainz soon opens up his desire to make the kingdom more prosperous. He has dreamed of a utopia where everyone can feel safe and intends to realize it.
