Made in Abyss Season 2 Episode 1 Recap
Eluko is a young girl with no family and was taken care of by a man who turned out to be terrible. She often remembers the story he used to tell her. While at sea, he encountered a ship littered with the bodies of burnt dead sailors, though there was no sign of fire. As the group of curious men looked around, they found only one survivor who was too scared to speak. The man who recorded Eluko later found a mysterious-looking compass on the survivor.
When questioned, he said it was a co-compass and that there was a place it would stand upright. Before he died, he also revealed that the Golden City actually exists and extends to the bottom of the world. Eluko is haunted by all those memories of the past until now and just wants to find a place where the voices of yesteryear leave her alone. It turns out that she is now with the Ganja Suicide Corps, which have been abandoned by their own people and are currently searching for the Golden City.
Eluko is greeted by leader Wazukyan after she vomits in the ocean and tries to regain her composure. They start talking about everyday things, and the latter mentions that they still have enough to eat to last another month. He even reveals that she is part of the three sages of Ganja. As he leaves, a young boy named Belaf repeats his words and even claims that Wazukyan predicted everything even before they met her.
Some time later, their ship is caught in a storm, but suddenly they are approaching an island. When Eluko shows the co-compass almost upright, Wazukyan is convinced they are near the Golden City. As they begin to explore the island, they are greeted by the natives who speak a different language. Eluko and others discover that the people who got there before them are betraying the natives.
Therefore, an elderly man can provide crucial information to Eluko’s fellow compass in return. She is only too happy to sacrifice a little bit for the group and hands him the precious-looking tool. A little girl has witnessed the exchange and when Eluko and her people leave, she joins them. They all eventually find the Sixth Layer, which the natives call the capital of the unreturned.
Made in Abyss Season 2 Episode 1 Ending: Are Riko, Reg and Nanachi Coming to the Sixth Layer of the Abyss?
After Prushka’s sacrifice, Riko, Meg and Nanachi find themselves happily in a pod-like object where they feel safe. When Riko and Meg continue to talk about Bondrewd, Nanachi argues that his words were poisonous and that they should focus on the present instead of looking back and forth. Suddenly, the pod-like object begins to descend, and Riko claims it happened just as she was rubbing Prushka.
Nanachi warns Riko to be careful, as she could accidentally move the pod upwards if she makes the wrong gesture. After traveling for a while, the trio are shocked to see the pod surrounded by corpses and bones. They realize that they are probably in the Sea of the Corpses. According to some myths, the souls of the dead have already reached the bottom of the underworld while their bodies are left behind. Riko, Meg and Nanachi descend further, eventually reaching the sixth layer.
Why is the sixth layer called the capital of the unreturned?
The Abyss has captivated countless adventurers through the ages to explore the unknown world in the depths of the Earth. While the amateur divers are only allowed to stay in the upper layers, the experts bravely descend to the farthest reaches. The sixth layer of the Abyss is referred to by the natives as the capital of the unreturned or the Shourou layer.
When the White Whistle decides to go there, it is often referred to as their last dive because returning for the sixth tier is physically impossible. The ascent proves too demanding, which the fragile bodies of the divers cannot withstand. Therefore, in time the sixth layer became known as the capital of the unreturned.
