Kotaro Lives Alone: New PV, Official Trailer
A teaser trailer and first visual were released by Netflix in November 2021 and the main visual came in January 2022. The new PV/Official Trailer has just been released by the Netflix Asia Youtube Channel. The teaser trailer only gave a vague idea about the anime, but the trailer certainly gives a very good example of what’s about to happen. Unpopular manga artist Shin Karino lives alone, but his life gets busier when his five-year-old neighbor Kotaro starts spending time with him.
‘Kotaro Lives Alone’ or ‘Kotaro wa Hitorigurashi’s’ story revolves around a little 4-year-old Kotaro Satou who moves into the next flat of Shin Karino, who is a failed manga artist. Kotaro lives alone and even has a job to support himself financially. He has no parents or any other relative who seems to be controlling him. Kotaro actually does a lot better at managing his life compared to any adult especially his adult neighbors whose life is pretty messed up. He moves into that apartment building and starts living in apartment 203.

What is ‘Kotaro Lives Alone’ about?
Shin Karino is an unpopular manga artist who lives alone, but his life gets interesting when his four-year-old neighbor Kotaro starts spending time with him. The arrival of Kotaro completely changes the living situation of the five other tenants of the apartment complex. Before that, they didn’t know who their neighbors were and they had no contact with each other. Karino, the manga artist, is a slacker whose room is dirty, and he was recently dumped by his girlfriend for sleeping on the bed while she waited for him for their scheduled date.
Although Karino is talented enough to win a manga contest, he seems too lazy, procrastinating and unmotivated to take advantage of that fledgling success. Now he continues to struggle to finish his new manga and meet the deadlines set by his publisher. At first, he’s quite curious to find out why a four-year-old boy lives alone and where his parents and family are. Kotaro is the first neighbor to have contact with him. This is because the boy goes to every flat of the apartment and knocks on every door to give them a housewarming gift since he just moved in.
Gradually, Kotaro motivates Karino to do better in life, although the adult doesn’t want to admit it to himself or Kotaro. He starts by clearing his room and slowly recovers from his breakup. He takes out the trash when Kotaro innocently asks him why the room was so dirty. While Kotaro the little boy insists on being independent, Karino worries about the little boy as he walks to places alone. He likes to go with Kotaro to the bathhouse, to take a bath, to the market to buy things and also to school. From a self-centered and irresponsible person, Kotaro begins to become more responsible. He used to live like he was a kid or a teenager, but now Karino is starting to act like an adult. Only Kotaro Lives also has a 10-episode live-action TV drama that was released in 2021.
