Kaiju No 8 Chapter 55 Summary
Chapter 55 of Kaiju No 8 is titled “A Chaotic Calamity Mars The Scenery”. The chapter opens with Kafka’s previous colleagues from Monster Sweeper Co. huge cleaning ant-like monsters. They discuss the situation of the city since Isao Shinomiya’s death, as several people have fled the country fearing #9.
At Ariake Coastal Base, Shinomiya trains with Platoon Leader Shinonome. Meanwhile, Narumi sits in the distance. All Platoon Leaders are extremely strong and have the potential to become a Commander. Once Shinomiya has defeated them all, Narumi will consider her a worthy opponent to duel against him. Shinonome notices Shinomiya’s excellent skills and is impressed. When the latter asks for more training, she feels excited. Narumi also tells Shinomiya that she has a month to outdo all Platoon Leaders.
At the same time, Deputy Commander Hasegawa arrives and asks Narumi what he plans to do with Kafka now that Isao is gone.
Kafka’s monstrosity develops. Part of his hand has turned monstrous and shows no sign of back-transformation. Narumi is told that if Kafka continues to transform, he may one day no longer be able to transform into his human form. At the same time, Kafka feels responsible for all the loss and is determined to make sure none of his comrades cry again. He is adamant about beating #9. While he is thinking to himself, Narumi appears. He sits next to Kafka and after a short silence announces that he can no longer let Kafka stay with the Defense Department. Narumi cites Kafka’s current situation as the reason for his decision as he cannot let him fight in such a state.
However, overrun with emotions and despair, Narumi asks Kafka to ‘grant them his strength’. He declares that he doesn’t care if Kafka can’t turn back into a monster and makes beating #9 a priority. Without hesitation, Kafka agrees.
In another base, Vice Commander Soshiro Hoshina stands in front of the battered core of Kaiju No 10 and announces that he has finally woken up.
