‘High Card’ Anime From The Creator Of Kakegurui Set To Release In 2023

Anime: High Card – A Story of Poker in a Fantasy Land

A new poker-based anime by Homura Kawamoto is currently in production and has just released its first promotional video. Known worldwide for his earlier work, Kakegurui, Homura Kawamoto is back with another card trick thriller. While his previous work was a story mainly aimed at women, this time he brings in High Card with a similar vibe, but a storyline with mostly male characters. The new project has introduced several details that have enticed several fans of the mangaka to look forward to it. A new High Card trailer and teaser has a lot to say about the upcoming anime, and we’re here to talk about it.

High Card shows that it can be something great. The characters introduced so far have unique personalities and show a strong presence. Considering how well thought out Homura Kawamoto’s previous work was, High Card is arguably the most exciting thriller anime we get to see. At the same time, if we want to compare High Card to Kakegurui, even though they are both card-based anime, there are major differences that set them worlds apart. A big difference is that High Card takes place in a supernatural world.

With so many exciting themes, the production of Kawamoto’s most recent project is one that we are extremely excited about. Here’s everything we know about the High Card anime and all the reasons it needs to be recognized more.

High card: plot

High Card is set in a fantasy world where certain cards, the X-Playing Cards, have the power to grant supreme supernatural abilities to those who have them. There are 52 X-Playing Cards that are spread over several people. These cards activate the ‘Buddy’ in a person, giving them increased abilities. Using the powers of these cards, the world order can be controlled.

Finn is an orphan who lived on the street. When he finds out that the orphanage he grew up in is about to close, he decides to make some quick money. To do the same, he tries to gamble and goes to a casino. However, he becomes entangled in a chase and deadly shooting caused by someone’s lucky card. Later, Finn discovers the existence of a secret organization made up of players called High Card. The High Card falls directly under the jurisdiction of the King Of Fourland. They are tasked with collecting the X-Cards while remaining undercover as the employees of the car manufacturer Pinochle.

Finn joins as the fifth member of the organization and begins his journey on the hunt for the cards. However, there is more to Finn’s journey than just looking for maps, as he discovers the dangers of this job. Against them are more organizations chasing these lucky cards: the rival car maker Who’s Who and the Klondikes mob family.

The rivals face each other with different motives in mind. Prepare for the confrontation.
