Tokyo 24th Ward is an original anime series produced by CloverWorks. It premiered in January 2022 and has become quite the cultural phenomenon. The story is set on a special man-made island in Tokyo Bay, commonly known as the 24th Ward. The protagonists are three childhood friends, Ran, Koki and Shuta. Koki had a sister, Asumi Suido, who died before the events of the anime. However, is Asumi Suido really dead, or is she still alive in Tokyo 24th Ward?

Shuta is the son of the owner of the Aoi Baker and is born with superhuman physical abilities. His strong and reliable nature earned him the nickname Mr. 24 on, the hero protecting the department. The second member Koki is a calm and intelligent teenager and the son of the famous Suido Zabatsu. Then comes Ran Akagi, leader of the artist group DoRed. He expresses his strong personality through graffiti art. Together they are known as RGB because of their red, green and blue hair colors.

They also had another member in their group, Asumi, Koki’s sister and childhood friend of the other two. A year earlier, however, she was involved in a school fire and died in Shuta’s arms. But things change when they suddenly start receiving messages from Asumi, suggesting life-or-death situations for them to resolve. A mysterious character named Carneades also appears and gives the world these impossible choices. What do these all mean, and is Asumi really dead?

What happened to Asumi Suido in Tokyo’s 24th ward?

During a school fire, Asumi Suido had entered the building to rescue the daughter of one of their teachers. During the fire, she was able to save the girl, but got herself trapped by debris that fell over her, eventually killing her. Shuta reached the spot before Asumi died, but all he could do was hear Asumi ask if he wanted to be a hero again.

Episode 3 opens with the festival. But RGB receives another message from Asumi. A tornado was heading for the festival, and everyone was in danger. Their choice is to have the strong run across the bridge to the mainland and leave the weak behind or get the weak into shipping containers for protection but leave the others in danger. The boys begin their own plan, but later find out that 21 people had died and 130 were seriously injured.

Episode 4 takes place three months after the fateful tornado attack. At that time, neither Asumi nor Caneades issued any kind of messages. But one night, the Carneades firebird symbol flashes in the night sky and the symbol appears on television for all to see. It’s time to make the next choice. At the same time, the boys receive the following message from Asumi. She shares her vision of a cruise ship full of VIPs in the port of Tokyo. However, the ship is rigged to explode with a remote-controlled bomb. Their mission is to snipe and kill the bomber before they get a chance to explore the ship. But the boys got confused because it didn’t seem like a choice.

They discover that the bomber is Ran’s friend Kunai, a skilled hacker and member of the DoRed team. Kunai committed the act as revenge against the Kaburaya corporation. But he was shot and killed by SARG, Kunai’s actions cause Ran and Koki to fight.

Asumi Suido still lives in Tokyo 24th Ward, but not as a human, as her brain is used to form the new KANAE system. This is a new security system created by Koki’s father, as he uses his daughter’s brain as the mainframe, while it is named after his wife and Koki’s mother Kanae. This was quite a shock to both Koki and us viewers. While RGB continued to receive calls from Asumi, Koki was not ready to accept that his sister was still alive. However, her body was presented to him, as her brain was kept in stasis after her death.
