Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Season 3: Renewed or Canceled?

Based on Koyoharu Gotouge’s Japanese manga series of the same name, ‘Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba’ (or simply ‘Demon Slayer’) is a dark fantasy anime. The show revolves around Tanjirou Kamado, a hardworking young adult whose life takes a turn when his entire family is brutally slaughtered except for his sister Nezuko. Unfortunately, Nezuko has a much more terrible fate when she turns into a demon and suffers. Tanjirou vows to avenge the brutal murder of his family by killing Muzan Kibutsuji, the demon king, turning her sister into a human in the process. The emotional journey of a seemingly ordinary but hugely kind young adult has moved viewers around the world.

The show has become one of the most popular anime of all time and has received critical acclaim for its brilliant storyline and incomparable animation. That’s why after Season 2 ends, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that fans are eagerly awaiting the next installment. If you’re also curious about the show’s return and want to learn more about it, we’ve got you covered.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Season 3 Release Date

Season 2 of ‘Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba’ was released on October 10, 2021, after a 17-month hiatus and ended on February 13, 2022. The second episode focused on the Mugen Train and Entertainment District Arcs and consisted of 18 episodes, each with a run time of approximately 21 to 46 minutes.

As for the third installment of the dark fantasy anime, we have some good news for the fans. Just after the Entertainment District Arc closed, it was officially announced that the anime had been renewed for another season. It shouldn’t surprise fans though, as Tanjirou hasn’t even met the Upper-Rank Demons yet. So fighting Muzan Kibutsuji and ending his reign of terror – which is supposed to mean the end of the show – isn’t even realistic at this point.

Meanwhile, it’s worth noting that the official confirmation also acknowledged that the third installment would revolve around the Swordsmith Village Arc. Much praised for its brilliant animation, Ufotable Studio is likely to prioritize the production of ‘Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba’ due to its popularity.

Therefore, like the previous season, we can expect the dark fantasy anime to return soon. Since the series has already been revamped, production is likely to start in the coming months. Taking animation, dubbing and other factors into account, we can expect to see Season 3 of ‘Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba’ premiere sometime in Q3 or Q4 2023

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Season 3 Plot: What Could It Be About?

In the Season 2 finale, Gyuutarou and Daki, the top six of the Twelve Kizuki, die after a violent battle with Tanjirou and his companions, including the Sound Hashira Tengen Uzui. As the Demon Slayers win, Uzui and Inosuke are left on the brink of death and are saved only by Nezuko’s surprising control of Blood Demon Art.

Since the Sound, Hashira has lost his arm and an eye; he decides to retire, aware that he won’t be of much use in direct combat. At the last minute of the episode, Akaza is summoned to Infinity Castle by Muzan Kibutsuji (probably along with other higher-ranking demons).

In Season 3, after realizing that his sword needs to be repaired and it’s unlikely that Hotaru Haganezuka will put in that much effort for him again, Tanjirou Kamado heads to the Swordsmith Village in search of a new Nichirin sword. There he will meet the love Hashira Mitsuri Kanroji and the mist Hashira, Muichiro Tokito and tend his wounds in the medicinal hot springs of the village.

While he’ll find a mysterious 300-year-old sword while training, happiness and tranquility won’t last long for the Demon Slayer and the denizens of the Swordsmith Village, as dark forces plan a vicious incursion. Just a few days after his arrival, the village is attacked by Upper-Rank Five Gyokko and the Upper-Rank Four Hantengu. As Nezuko, Tanjirou, Mitsuri, and Genya battle Hantengu, the mist Hashira is left alone to confront Gyokko, which will prove fatal to Muichiro.
