Ascendance of a Bookworm Season 3 Episode 6 Recap

After failing to kidnap Myne during the Spring Festival, Viscount Gerlach and his henchmen have a secret meeting to discuss their future course of action. Viscount Daldorf confesses that she not only intended to kidnap the apprentice blue shrine maiden, but also to hurt Ferdinand as much as possible. Unfortunately, she not only managed to achieve her goals, but also lost her son Sir Schicicoza in the ensuing battle.

In addition, all the devouring soldiers of Bindewald, who fought for Gerlach and his troops, also died. To make Gerlach pay for the loss, Bindewald asks him to sell Myne to her once they manage to kidnap her. He has always been interested in devouring commoners, so adding Myne to his troops will naturally help him increase his influence.

Meanwhile, Myne shares her excitement about being a big sister with Benno. In light of Ferdinand’s problem with the new printing machine, she tells him to shift everything to picture book production for a while. She also proposes the idea of developing colored inks and improving stamp printing technology. Myne plans to continue making more books, even though she may not be as free to do so as before.

Later at the cathedral, Wilma informs Myne and others about an abandoned baby, unable to figure out what to do with him. However, as there is no gray shrine maiden in the cathedral with experience raising a child, Myne informs Ferdinand of the situation. He suggests hiring a wet nurse to help them, but doesn’t hide the fact that it will be an uphill task to find one. Later, Myne convinces Delia that they will take turns taking care of him alone. They also agree to name the boy Dirk.

The next day, Myne and Benno meet with the ink maker Bierce and his daughter Heidi. Myne reiterates her plans to develop colored inks and improve stamping technology for the father and daughter duo. Heidi tells Myne that she’s impressed with the techniques she used to make the ink, but claims the same process can be used to make colored inks, making Myne’s eyes light up instantly. The two don’t hide their enthusiasm for working together.

Later, Heidi, along with her husband Josef, tries to make different colors in the presence of Myne, Lutz and Gil. Unfortunately, most of their experiments did not yield the desired results, which worried Myne. Meanwhile, Delia informs the High Bishop about the birth of Myne’s brother and the abandoned child in the cathedral, but fails to keep him interested. Later, when she goes to fetch food for Dirk, she finds him with a very high fever and strange red spots all over his body.

Ascendance of a Bookworm Season 3 Episode 6 Ending: What Is It Devouring?

Devouring is a strange disease that affects ordinary children with mana comparable to at least a low-ranking nobleman. While these children are gifted in one way, they also have to bear the negative consequences, such as a shorter life expectancy, stunted growth, and ongoing health problems, including a fever. Because the disease can be life-threatening, the children who suffer from it must make sure that the excess mana does not hurt them and those around them.

Therefore, they often have to use feystones or specialized magical tools at regular intervals to drain their mana. However, there are other ways in which devouring can be controlled and prevented from having the worst impact on the life of an ordinary citizen. While the use of magical tools is common, there are also several noble contracts that can guarantee a longer life for those with excess mana. One involves legally becoming a servant of a nobleman.

Moreover, an ordinary blue priestess can even become a nobleman’s wife, while if one succeeds in seducing an ordinary citizen into a submission contract, they might even become a slave. In all these scenarios, the excess mana is controlled using innovative means or exploited by a power-hungry person for their twisted ends. However, the ordinary citizen succeeds in extending his/her life expectancy as an end result.
