Ascendance of a Bookworm Season 3 Episode 5 Recap
After the spring prayers are over and Myne is done with her duties, she and others return to the cathedral. Ferdinand only meets with Myne to discuss the attack on the carriage, which could have turned out very differently had they not been lucky enough. He argues that the dark barrier that covered the carriage could only be created with a great deal of magic. Therefore, no doubt nobles are involved in the incident.
He further argues, much to Myne’s horror, that the fact that Damuel can sense the magical powers can only mean one thing: they have started devouring soldiers. When Myne later meets Sylvester, he talks about his plan to visit the orphanage and then the workshop so that he needs her as his guide. Meanwhile, Ferdinand also wants to join them for his own reasons.
Once they reach the orphanage, Myne introduces them to Wilma and others. Then they discover the toy called Karuta and Trumps, which she has used during the winters to teach her servants to read and write. Because all the cards used for this purpose must be made separately, Myne explains that it was impossible for her to mass-produce the product. Later in her studio she shows Ferdinand and Sylvester how it works there. She also introduces them to Benno and Lutz, who take care of the workshop.
Sylvester decides to talk to Benno alone while Myne shows Ferdinand her new printing machine. She explains, much to the High Priest’s surprise, that it can be used without much effort to print multiple pages in a few minutes. Ferdinand immediately realizes the potential of the printing machine and the far-reaching social and political influence it can have. That’s why he tells her to talk about it when they’re done with their tasks for the day.
When Sylvester meets Myne again, he gives her a magical emergency talisman that can be used to summon him. The next day her father and Tuuli come to pick her up. When she meets her mother, Myne learns that she is about to give birth. As if her sibling was waiting for her, just the day after her arrival, Myne’s brother is born and a naming ceremony is organized, in which all the villagers participate.
Some people take care of Myne’s mother after the birth, while others help the family cook delicious food. Her father decides to name his son Kamil. When news of the ceremony reaches the cathedral, Delia wastes no time looking for the High Bishop so she can inform him. Unfortunately he is not in the cathedral, but she hears from one of his servants that a guest is coming soon who is interested in children. Delia sees this as her chance to escape the temple.
Ascendance of a Bookworm Season 3 Episode 5 Ending: What’s Ferdinand Worried About Myne’s Printing Press?
After visiting the workshop and learning about Myne’s new printing machine, Ferdinand meets her alone to discuss the long-term implications for the world. He believes that the traditional methods of making books are slow and require the hard work of various craftsmen. However, with Myne’s new printing press, only a few people can publish multiple books, which will change the distribution of information and lead to unimaginable political and social consequences.
However, the first thing it will do is take the livelihood of people working in traditional book production. While this is bad, Ferdinand further predicts that the political and social aspects of society’s transformation could be even worse. He asks Myne what changes in her world were followed by the invention of the press.
She confirms his worst fears by explaining that as society became better educated, they overthrew the monarchy, paving the way for democracy. But in Myne’s world, there is no magic, so Ferdinand also believes that the changes there cannot accurately predict the future of his world. While he doesn’t want to permanently ban Myne’s printing machine, he wants her to wait until Karstedt adopts her.
