Japan has been ravaged by the Rusty wind that took over everything. This plague-like outbreak is believed to be caused by mushroom spores. The story centers on Mushroom Guardians who are eventually executed one by one as it is believed to be part of their fault. But in reality, the mushrooms helped lessen the effect of this rusty wind. Our protagonist Bisco Akaboshi is also a mushroom protector and happens to be a criminal. Unfortunately, his teacher catches the rust that leads Bisco to look for the Mushroom named Rusteter, who will heal his teacher.
Anime similar to Sabikui Bisco:
The mysterious state of Spontaneous Human Combustion has turned the world upside down. This plague turns random people into a weird mindless creature called the Infernals, causing them severe pain. Fortunately, some gifted individuals can control their flames without actually burning. These individuals are called the Pyrokinetic. To prevent more cases of Spontaneous Human Combustion, a special fire brigade was formed.
Shinra, an eager young man, wanted to be a hero and joined the fire force. It can travel at high speed, like a rocket. But things were not as he thought they would be. The whole system is in a deep mess with increasing cases of human combustion.
Both series form a plot around the post-apocalyptic world. They are both dealing with a plague-like issue that is terrorizing all of Japan. As with Sabikui Bisco, people eventually begin to form groups and gather gifted individuals who are tolerant of the problem that arises. Plus, there’s a perfect blend of adventure and mystery in the Fire Force and Sabikui Bisco.
It is about a slum where people are treated like insects, they live in fear of being brutally abused by Magic-Users. This city of misfortune is known as Hole, which is an appropriate name because it is dark and sinister. The city is like an outcast without any rights or law. The Hole is used by Magic users as their testing ground. These users show no mercy, and all they do is experiment and kill people without hesitation.
Caiman, a reptile-headed person with severe amnesia, kills these wizards along with Nikaido. Caiman has immunity to magic, making him invincible against wizard battles. They are both more of a police officer for The Hole as they patrol the city defending it from the Magic users.
There is a semi-post-apocalyptic setting in Dorohedoro. Like Sabikui Bisco, countless people die every day, but instead of being a plague, they are magical users destroying the entire city. Plot aside, they both have the same bizarre energy with a perfect mix of mystery and action.
3. Mushoku Tensei
The story begins with the death of an unknown 34-year-old NEET. The fear of being a successful or happy person makes him think that his life is meaningless. But in his attempt to do something remarkable, he has an accident and wakes up in the body of a baby named Rudeus Greyrat. He finds out that he has been reborn in another world, one with swords and magic. Failing in his last life, he promises himself success in this new life. He develops good skills as a magician and becomes an apprentice to Roxy Migurdia, also known as the Demon Magician.
Later in the story, the land is hit by a mysterious mana disaster. However, Rudeus is teleported to the Demon Continent. There, he teams up with new people and begins his adventure to come back home and protect them, making sure he doesn’t repeat the same mistakes in this life.
The protagonists of both anime go on some kind of adventure, encountering various enemies along the way. While Mushoku Tensei has more of an Isekai and fantasy theme, it has plenty of action and suspense. They are both in a deserted environment.
4. Deca Dence
The story is set in the 2400s, when air pollution reached the level where humans began to die out. Besides the toxic environment, people also face problems due to the existence of Gadoll. Living things are responsible for eliminating 90% of the human population. To cope with them, some big companies created cyborgs that behave like humans. As for the remaining humans, they were kept on another continent where they lived in a large dome controlled by a mobile fortress Deca-dence.
To bolster the defenses for the remaining people of the island, some groups went above ground to fight against Gadolls. Natsume dreams of becoming a warrior like her father, who died because he was attacked by a Gadoll. But while she would rather be on the front lines, her request was not granted. But her will is as strong as ever.
The biggest similarity between the two is the depiction of a post-apocalyptic world. In both cases, people come together to solve the problems and bring about change once and for all. They are both over-the-top action, adventure and thrilling anime. Moreover, they both give almost the same atmosphere as the atmosphere itself becomes habitable.
The story begins in the 32nd century and focuses on Vash the Stampede, a man with a $60 billion bounty. This is due to his cruel acts of destroying everything and everyone in his path. He is known as a villain who wipes out an entire city for pleasure. However, that’s what people think. In reality, he is a humble person, who claims that he has never taken a life.
Finally, after the rumors started to get more and more bizarre, Milky Thompson and Meryl Strife were sent to Bernadarii Insurance Co to keep an eye on Vash. But to their surprise, Vash was a simple, helpless man who loved donuts. While spying on him, they noticed that there were many people after his life, but Vash always fought them off without taking their lives. But behind his free-spirited personality hides a dark past.
The protagonists of both series radiate a similar atmosphere, and in addition, they are both declared criminals with a heavy bounty on their heads. While the truth is that they are good individuals who have been misunderstood by the world. There are also some dark mysteries surrounding the protagonists, which make the plot interesting.
6. Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann
Gurren Lagann is also set in a futuristic world, where the Earth is ruled by Lordgenome. He is a merciless creature who forces people to live in isolated and underground villages with no contact with the outside world. Being an underground village, there are constant earthquakes that would cause mass destruction. To avoid this, the villagers have to dig deeper underground. The two brothers, Simon and Kamina, were born in this underground village. Simon is a weak and timid boy, while Kamina is a cheerful and lively character with high ambitions.
They both became diggers. Simon, however, is more of an outcast, with his brother and best friend being the only exceptions. Kamina allowed Simon to be part of his gang that aspires to revisit the surface. One day, Simon takes a key called the Core Drill. Within minutes, a giant Gunman falls from the ceiling and begins to attack the village. But using the core drill, Simon destroys the shooter and breaks out into the Surface world with Kamina.
Both Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann and Sabikui Bisco show a world facing a massive disaster. In both cases, people are treated as insignificant things. However, there are always people who rebel against these forces that have destroyed the world. In this story, that role is played by Kamina. The protagonists are joined by talented and knowledgeable companions who often act as guardians. Plus, Gurren Lagann is leaning towards the mecha genre, but that doesn’t detract from the action pack.
Nanbaka is quite an interesting story as it contains a prison, implying a setting for an escape. The story follows four men who are sent to the world’s most terrifying prison called Nanba. The prison is specially built for notorious criminals who caused trouble in their previous prison. These four men, Jugo, Uno, Rock and Nico, were assigned the same cell. Jugo is a Lock specialist who previously tried to escape from prison but was eventually caught. Uno is a gambler with special interests as he usually likes to gamble with women. Rock likes to get into fights, but he’s also a big foodie. And finally, Nico is a helpless otaku with strange reactions to drugs.
All four of them form a bond in no time, although they usually argue. Their cell quickly became a place that felt like home. However, the construction supervisor suspects that they will try to break out the first chance they get. It makes him quite paranoid and restless. Instead of a dark and depressing prison story, Nanbaka follows a bright theme with hilarious scenes and the daily lives of the inmates and the guards.
Nanbaka, as well as Sabikui Bisco, have similar art styles and animations. Besides, the comedic elements are also similar, even in a desperate situation there are funny scenes followed by serious action scenes. The female side characters are almost equal and strong. Even their OSTs are equally bad. While they both have many similarities, the core plot of both anime is unique.
