10 Most Loved Dogs In Anime

Anime introduces us to many characters who are remembered years after their respective anime ends. These characters often become an important part of a person’s life as they have more of an impact on us. However, in addition to these characters, there are also characters that help make the anime more memorable by adding a lot of comedic aspects. These are often done by the side characters, and nothing is more endearing than a dog being the side character. In this article, we have listed the 10 most loved anime dogs that you should know.

Even if people are afraid of dogs, they can’t help but agree that some of the dogs in anime are definitely worth keeping as pets. Not only this, but these dogs are also capable of evoking a lot of emotional responses from their viewers when portrayed realistically. Feel free to let us know in the comments which dog from the list you would like to keep as a pet.

Akamaru from the Naruto series

First on the list of most loved dogs in anime is Akamaru from Naruto. Akamaru was a recurring character throughout the Naruto series. Akamaru is not only a pet, but also a member of the Inuzuka clan. This clan specializes in teaming up with Ninja Dogs, which can be scary or cute. He was entrusted to Kiba Inuzuka when he was a puppy and Kiba was a child.

Interestingly, Akamaru urinates on Kiba’s face during their first meeting, which shows his crazy personality. More friendly than most ninja dogs, Akamaru trains and grows strongly with his partner and best friend, Kiba. He usually appears to be very reactive and often has a smile on his face. Not only this, but they also develop new species of Jutsus together and are always seen together.

As a puppy, Akamaru traveled around with Kiba sitting on his soldier. As an adult dog, he will grow big enough to carry Kiba around. Akamaru has the ability to sense danger as well as other people’s scents, which gives Kiba and him the upper hand during combat. He and Kiba were powerful enough to give Naruto a hard time in battle. Since Kiba belongs to Team 8, Akamaru also becomes part of it.

Black Hayate from the Fullmetal Alchemist series

Next on the list is a dog who may not have much screen time in the anime Fullmetal Alchemist, but still plays an important role. Black Hayate first appeared on the show as a stray puppy who was picked up by Sergeant Kain Fuery. He picked it up because it was raining outside, but couldn’t keep the puppy with him in his dorm. So he hoped someone would take the puppy home and keep it under their care. Unfortunately, most of his colleagues were unable to keep the puppy with them for various reasons. Finally, the first lieutenant, Riza Hawkeye, decides to take the puppy home and names him Black Hayate, which means Black Hurricane.

Black Hayate, although now in the military family, is a crazy dog. He appears to be a Shiba, but also has Siberian Husky-like features. Despite his crazy personality, he was trained by Riza Hawkeye to do some tricks. Like most dogs, he is loyal to her and kind to others. In the epilogue, Black Hayate is seen taking a nap with a family of her own.

Tetsuya #2 by Kuroko no Basuke

The next most loved dog in anime is also considered to be one of the important characters in the anime Kuroko no Basuke. His story is similar to Black Hayate’s, and you can almost assume they are from the same litter. Tetsuya #2 was found by Kuroko no Basuke’s main character, Kuroko Tetsuya, in a box near his school. Since his teammates pointed out that they share the same eyes, they decided to name the dog Tetsuya #2. Although many of them immediately accepted the dog, except for Kagami.

However, he is a dog that does not stay at home and often hangs out with them. Thus Kagami eventually becomes warm to him. Tetsuya is very reactive. He is able to make facial expressions that sum up exactly how he feels.

Tetsuya #2

Although his breed is not mentioned, it is likely that he is wholly or partly a husky. He is often seen sleeping on the basketball court. Not only this, but Tetsuya #2 wears jersey number 16 and acts almost like a mascot for the team. In addition, his personality is very similar to Kuroko. He became attached to Kuroko from the moment he wore him.

One of Cowboy Bebop

While all dogs are intelligent, Cowboy Bebop’s Ein takes it to another level. His backstory is likely tragic, though it was never revealed. Ein is a dog whose intelligence was enhanced by researchers to make him the cutest main character on the team. Because of this, he was known as a data dog. He helps his teammate by retaining data and responding to it with his body language. In addition, he has a way of answering yes and no – one bark = yes and two barks = no.

Ein, the intelligent corgi

As mentioned above, it was not mentioned how Ein was turned into a super intelligent dog, but we do know how his character was developed. Ein’s name is a short version of Einstein. In addition, he is a cute corgi and was voiced by a real corgi.

Sadaharu from Gintama

The next dog is probably one you would like to have. Gintama, with his characters, has always made his viewers laugh, and so has Sadaharu. Sadaharu is probably different from other dogs here, not only in behavior but also in appearance. How he got into the quirky Yorozuya team is interesting. Sadaharu was a dog god and the guardian of Dragon’s Pulse. In exchange for doing his job, he was taken care of by the Ane and Mone. However, with the advanced technology in their world, Sadaharu no longer had to watch the pulse. He was eventually abandoned by the Yorozuya group due to his high maintenance.

Sadaharu doesn’t seem to mind the members of the group and often shows them love, as well as others, by biting their heads. He is usually taken care of by Kagura. Throughout the series, Sadaharu has his own time to shine, such as when he saved Earth from an invasion of alien cockroaches. Interestingly, he also shows human features which makes his character very comical.

Pakkun from the Naruto series

Speaking of comic dogs, another ninja dog that is widely known and loved from the Naruto series is Pakkun. He is a cute dog with a deep voice which makes his character very endearing. Not only this, but his “always tired” appearance makes him look like a grandpa dog who is tired of everything. Although he may look like he doesn’t want to do his job, he is one of the most trusted ninja dogs. This was proven when we saw Kakashi rely on him in intense situations. He also managed to guide younger ninjas on missions.

Another interesting fact worth mentioning is that he makes sure to give him time to have his own skin care routine. He has said that the shampoo/body wash he uses is called Floral Green. This is funny because Sakura uses the same body wash – the more you think about it, the funnier it gets.

Meccachin from Yuri!! on ice

Another endearing dog and probably the only one acting like a real dog on this list is Makkachin from Yuri!! on ice. Mekkachin is not a main character in the entire anime, but eventually becomes a mascot of the show. Mekkachin is a poodle ready to follow Victor to the ends of the world. More like, Victor would go to the ends of the world and take Meccachin with him. Long story short, they are both inseparable. There was one time when Mekkachin wasn’t allowed on the ice rink, so Victor carried a box of Mekkachin tissues with him, which he always does.

Inspired by Victor and his relationship with Mekkachin, Yuri also raised a poodle and named it Vicchan. Not only this, but because of his friendly demeanor, Mekkachin is very fond of Yuri. He usually loved to cuddle with Victor when they slept. Unfortunately, since Meccachin has been with Victor for a long time, Victor believes that Meccachin may not have many years left to live. So this became one of the reasons why Victor took a break from skating.

Shiro by Crayon Shinchano

The next dog is loved because he takes care of his owners. Shiro, also known as Whitey, was found by Shinchan in a cardboard box. He immediately fell in love with the puppy and was taken home, but had to be kept outside in a kennel. Although Shiro is his best friend, Shinchan tends to forget his existence and often forgets to take care of him and feed him on time. This allows Shiro to save food for him in his kennel for the days when he doesn’t get food. Additionally, Shiro is known for putting up with Shinchan’s antics.

Things get harder for him when Shinchan’s sister, Himawari, is born. He often watches her from his kennel outside, making sure she is not harmed by her adventurous and inquisitive personality. Besides being cute, he is a hardworking dog and the main character of “Super Shiro”.

Tobimaru from Sword of the Stranger

Another dog who protects his owners is Tobimaru from the anime movie Sword of the Stranger. He is the faithful companion of the main character, an orphaned boy named Kotaro. He is also friendly around Nanashi and offers him food. Tobimaru is very protective of both of them and almost kills if one of them is harmed, especially Kotaro.

He even killed a man because he was a threat. Tobimaru follows Kotaro wherever he goes, and he has a red ribbon-like cloth tied around his neck. Tobimaru follows Nanashi to rescue Kotaro. He helps Nanashi track down Kotaro and also manages to distract enemies.

Alexander from the Fullmetal Alchemist series

Finally, the most beloved dog in the anime is Alexander from the Fullmetal Alchemist series. However, Alexander’s story comes to a sad and dark end. Alexander was introduced to us as Nina’s dog and only friend. He not only played with her, but was also very protective of her. Not only this, but he always let her ride on his back while they played. Alexander made us laugh because of the way he and Edward interacted. But the time they all spent together was very endearing.

Things get dark and probably shocking for anyone who has seen Fullmetal Alchemist when Alexander, as well as Nina, are used in a fatal chimera experiment by Nina’s father. Unfortunately, Alexander and Nina did not survive for a long time, but the time they shared together made him a special dog.
